Bio
Josef Adams, better known as J Dub, has come from singing in a church choir as a young child to becoming the young independent record owner he is now. J Dub began writing raps by the age of 12, and is now releasing projects of his own under his own label. He went from school yard battles to the TeamBackPack cyphers. And a thorough music background definitely had something to do with it.
Raised by a single mother, Josef didn’t have your typical childhood. With his father and older brother serving time, and living 4 houses down from active XIV members, J Dub learned how to be a man from the streets. Although he was always an honor student, Josef spent 2 years in anger management as a child and 3 years probation as a teen. A far cry from the run ins with the law experienced by his brother and father, J Dub always kept a solid presence with childhood friends and neighborhood gang members, always known as the ‘Light-skinned Pretty Boy’, or J Dub-rapper, hustler, business man.
In middle school, J Dub, along with Ty The Artist and Justinkase, started Rapshack records. The main act under the label was B.A.Y (Bay Area Youngstas) and consisted of members Justinkase, TY, Shye Boss, D Weez, Smith Andrews, Junco G and myself, and together the group released 4 projects, moved close to 10,000 units(physical/download) and got radio play with the single ‘Dum di Dum Dum’ feat. Mistah Fab.
Over time, J Dub Shack Boy has developed tremendously as an artist and is still showing signs of improvement vocally, lyrically, and especially on the business side. Learning from botched business experiences, complications within the organizations, money issues and technical issues, J Dub has come a long way from being just you ‘next rapper to get on.’ He exhibits leadership qualities, exquisite tastefulness yet is slick with his everyday speech as if each conversation was a song, to the lowly. J Dub displays excellent people skills and seems to be comfortable with himself in any environment and is constantly on the ball when it comes to representing his organization to the fullest.
J Dub Shack Boy has worked with artists such as Mistah F.A.B., Willie Joe, Cousin Fik, Jamillions, P Child, Moe Green And Joey Cool (The Outcrowd), Show Banga, Aka frank, Damey, JayAnt, Ray Guevera, Shark Sinatra, E Money, Lay Low (RIP), TY THA ARTIST, CEO, Acktup, Ginger, Indecent The Slapmaster and Krypto, Chev, Justinkase, Rob E, Soulboy, Focus, DJ Champino, Trell, Smith Andrews, Junco G., Shye Boss, D-Weez, News Brief, Young Gloc, and many more. J Dub experienced early success with former group and current label mates B.A.Y. (Bay Area Youngstas), releasing two mixtapes and two albums, each receiving positive fan support an decent street sells. Since his departure from the group, J Dub has released 4 mixtapes via the Rap Steroids saga, another called Shackboyz with label mates Young Gloc, Trell, and News Brief, 1 EP titled Reality Show, a collab mixtape with label mate Junco G titled Winter’s Fall hosted by Dj Slowpoke, and has recently released his debut LP titled Cruisn California, which can be found at Thizzler.com and TheBayIsBack.com.
